KENT STATE: A REQUIEM
PLANS FOR PRODUCTION

STAGE MANAGEMENT:
"As the stage manager it would have been my job to make sure everything is in order. That can range from making sure all the props are accounted for, feeding lines to the actors when they need them,
and staying on top of set
changes/cues. This job is just
important as the director
or executive producer because
it’s basically my job to make
sure the show is running
smoothly. How I would go
about this production is
aiming for a less is more concept. For such an important subject and dialogue rich with historical accuracy I wouldn't want the audience getting distracted with an elaborate set. This play is more of a emotional conversation (almost on the same lines of the play Doubt where there is only one set) and relies mostly on what the characters are saying than what is happening around them. I also would have consulted with the actors to make sure they were prepared, whether that be with knowing their lines or understanding when their cues are. It is a tiring but a completely rewarding job. Having experience in stage managing a play makes my understanding of the jobs requirements and dedication that much easier for me."

PRODUCING
"As producers of the play, we would be in charge of the promotion and the planning. We would have ideally booked the Cabaret due to its audience capacity and performance accessibility. We would reach out to several organizations such as CPLA for financial and promotional support. Promoting the play would require posters being hung around campus as well as advertised via social media (Facebook, Instagram, Twitter, etc.). Our website would also serve as a promotional and informative aspect as it would provide further knowledge on Kent State for audience members, as well as information of the play and it's cast members. We would also be in charge of creating and giving out programs of the play during the day of production. These programs would include character and cast information as well as a personal letter by Dr. Payne. During the production, we would serve as production managers. We would work with the budget and provide craft and aid services backstage. As producers, we feel it is important to dedicate proper time and energy to a play like this one. This play embodies the revolutionary idealism brought during the Kent State incident that must be instilled in our youth today. The play's ideals are extremely relevant today as it is a reflection of many current issues that the youth are facing. We would be honored to partake in such a wonderful production with such a meaningful message."
